Battlefield 4 Naval Strike: All Four Maps Detailed

Four all-new maps focused on intense naval warfare await you in Battlefield 4 Naval Strike. To give you a detailed tour of these wet and wild vistas, we hand over to lead gameplay designer Gustav Halling.

The four all-new maps in Battlefield 4 Naval Strike were designed with a simple premise in mind: to expand on what players loved with the naval warfare from Battlefield 4. It’s our hope you’ll enjoy the new maps immensely, whether you’re trying out the new Carrier Assault mode or piloting the new Hovercraft. Naturally, we have also crafted the surroundings with infantry and non-naval vehicles in mind. So without further ado, let’s go through the four maps of Naval Strike.

Lost Islands

Starting with Lost Islands, this map focuses around a crashed airplane located near the center of the map. The map itself contains several small islands surrounding the crash site that can be traversed using quad bikes around the whole map, or by using boats (including the new hovercraft) to take shortcuts across it. The key to master this map is to control the plane at the crash site, which can be blown open to give infantry some much needed cover. Another special area of this map is the cave blanketed by a waterfall, as it provides visual cover for patrolling boats and helicopters.

Nansha Strike

Nansha Strike is a very boat heavy map with several bases spread out in the water to battle it out on, while at the same time allowing total infantry control of the middle areas. The central area provides a lot of cover for infantry and is a death trap for water vehicles if they try to enter it via the small rivers. The surrounding bases can be captured from the water, with some offering big bases in the middle of the sea for infantry. This is where the more powerful vehicles spawn, which makes them key to own and control.

Wave Breaker

Wave Breaker has a unique submarine base hidden in the middle mountain which allows for tight close quarter combat, but it also has wide canals where it’s possible to do drive-bys with the attack boats to add extra mayhem to the mix. The middle area has many different Levolution possibilities. You can for instance bring down a submarine from its support and turn off the lights in the surrounding corridors. It’s also possible to stop boats from entering the area by closing the four flood gates and blocking the direct path from the bases on the two sides. The middle island will give players intense fights in Deathmatch modes.

Operation Mortar

Operation Mortar is our vacation paradise turned into a war zone, with wooden huts surrounding the islands. There is an old fort on the top of the mountain, which provides a great overview over the whole map. It also gives the team owning it a fast way to capture the other bases on the main island. In Rush, this levels starts from the bottom of the islands and goes up towards the fort, providing interesting and fun vertical gameplay which will provide a big challenge for attackers.

I have to say this is a pretty armature roll out. I wonder if EA pushed Dice into this date, and because they were rushing to meet a deadline they delivered a product that was not ready for prime time. It wouldn’t be the first time this has happened.

  • theCPjuggernaut 03.26.14 at 17:22

Just so you know EA is now offering “Hush Money” in the form of a single gold battlepack. Apparently, this is the only compensation that they are allowing for this batched roll out. Sounds a little like cough cough *Obabacare* cough cough.
If you feel wronged, please contact EA via their chat button and tell them that this battlepack won’t shut us up. Strength in numbers gentlemen, make your voice heard!

  • IamTacoWan 03.26.14 at 03:27

I have a love / hate relationship with you dice. Please don’t jack up star wars battlefront like you did with bf4. Granted I still am thankful for bf4. Please give us xbox1 users some constellation prizes.

  • FMS Souza 03.25.14 at 22:59

dice sempre colocando no rabuletê da gente, 25/03 as 19:00h e nada de naval strike. o que a dice quer mesmo é nosso dinheiro, nada mais.

  • S0nOfKodiak 03.25.14 at 22:25

How about instead of worrying about letting us know about the maps you fucking release them on time? Very unprofessional of dice and not to mention letting the community down again after paying an extra 50 dollars on top of a 70 dollar game…..

  • bzm222 03.25.14 at 18:05

When the expansion be available to PS3? Another let down.

  • private-nio 03.25.14 at 16:53

  • Gramulf 03.25.14 at 14:13

  • PINDAAATJE 03.25.14 at 13:34

  • Banky21 03.25.14 at 09:59

Is this not supposed to be released by now? I can’t see it anywhere and I have Premium.

    • Chimera76 03.25.14 at 10:35

EA/DICE already announced this morning that Naval Strike will be delayed for PC because they found some issues with it. Until now no ETA!

  • YOUFREEKOUT21 03.25.14 at 06:36

It is not appearing in the store and I have premium

This DLC is coming out right as the Malaysia flight is missing, and one of the maps has a crashed plane? ITS A CONSPURRRRACY DICE MUST BE ILLUMATI OBAMA IS OSAMA TRUST NO ONE

    • DicelingXXpro 03.24.14 at 05:50

Like they find the plane on some tropical islands in the Pacific/Indian ocean. This would be the cause of crash MANY BATTLEFIELD FANS USED TERRIBLE REAL LIFE NET CODE TO TAKE DOWN PLANE SAYS SOURCE

    • boy98barca 03.24.14 at 12:52

Your grammar sucks and ofcourse DICE is illuminati. Every big company is illuminati.

  • TheDiaperButtKid 03.22.14 at 00:01

Not really excited. Four more tropical Paracel Storm maps, ‘yay’.
(Nobody thought of a Alaska Chinese invasion, or an attack on Canada? Too much work I’m sure)
No dirt bikes – again. (SA could have been so much more fun with them)
No CTF (it sucks now anyway – no dirt bikes)
Half-ass Titan mode (MCOMs? Could have been so much cooler than that, but I am certain it was done half-ass in order to be compatible with the old XBOX hardware limitations.)
Really disappointed in the effort that goes into the updates and DLC. SA took no effort at all.
Nice job introducing the kill-cam bug and the crash on map change in the last “patch”.
(“patch” has quotes like the word “netcode” does to imply something other than what the word really means)
From what I can see from here, the “team” appears to not really give a damn anymore, and they are just cranking out whatever crap EA mandates. The people that wrote the game code must have quit and you’ve replaced them with less experienced programmers – that’s why things that worked get broken.

Keep your heads in the sand. Wouldn’t expect anything more.

  • 72VirginExpress 03.21.14 at 16:22

I do look forward to DLC from Dice/EA – new maps add to playability and longevity. Hopefully a maturation of players and netcode will allow for the game to be played as it’s meant. This game is fun, always has been except when it was broken…..seemingly beyond repair – each new patch seems to address a little better some of the issues everyone complains about.

    • jaks1985 03.24.14 at 20:18

well i see all this dlc and wonder if i am the only one having trouble with this game and my ps4 shouldnt you fix it before you add more too it.Oh thats right you just want our money and could give a rats ass about testing and quality.fix the single player saves and the headsets.then make it where ps3 and 4 can team up so me and my bro can play.till then im staying with this broke plain bf4 with no extra content

  • killakobe 03.21.14 at 14:15

Can we get a compass on hardcore? Be nice when they spot a player for u and say they are west you can know which way that is. mean we cant locate where the sun rises. thank you

  • NOA_123147 03.21.14 at 10:50

Great Work DICE ! BF4 is awesome !

  • MrpmMxr 03.21.14 at 04:49

Sure Titan mode and the sub base and other bases on other maps will be great. But there seems little veriety and too much sameness. As a BF fan, there’s a lot I’d have liked to see like more modern buildings, a port city maybe….SOME modern structures….and have maps that are classic like from Wake Island to 2142 maps. So much potential too for naval maps. Not enough epic set pieces. no epic tummelplats. for this expansion.

  • Hewitt_Johnson 03.21.14 at 04:17

Lost islands seems like a reference to the show lost

  • Sachman187 03.21.14 at 04:08

Nice job Dice, you made a beautiful game i love the next gen graphics on BF4. I only hope the netcode and rubber banding issues will be fixt with a new update soon!

  • YaoBrotherZ 03.21.14 at 01:46

    Best FPS Ever. Dope!!

  • Zencowboy007 03.21.14 at 01:46

Yes, will be Sweet and Thanks again! Been playing on PC Titanfall but to me doesn’t have the depth and fun of BF3-4 series.

  • LhAnO 03.20.14 at 23:38

    Amazing! Good job DICE!

  • beardedpig 03.20.14 at 23:37

in before people say “FIX THE GAME DICE”

  • DeKay106 03.20.14 at 23:03

I hope to god you still have to attack the core and then gtfo.. Best Part.

    • Maletizer 03.21.14 at 01:49

If you watch LevelCap or Jackfrags Youtube channels they explain how there was no end sequence after blowing up the last mcom in Carrier Assault. It just ends after that with a video of the ship blowing up. Kinda disappointed :(

  • Skater_Ricky 03.20.14 at 22:43

I look forward to flying a helicopter on these maps because I don’t have to worry about the over powered mobile AA taking me down across the map. Also I can’t wait to try out the hovercraft and see what crazy stunt’s will happen with that thing. 5 more days can’t come soon enough. Looking to recruit new member’s to my Platoon on PlayStation 4. Our platoon name is “Battlefield Chaos” we are looking for good players that are friendly and use a mic at all times during gameplay and listen to your squad leader and follow his order’s. Stick together and communication is key in winning. Hoorah!
