Get up close and personal with Battlefield 3™: Close Quarters in June, the first of three new expansion packs!

In June, take the battle indoors with our new themed expansion pack Battlefield 3: Close Quarters! This will be followed by all-out vehicle warfare in Battlefield 3: Armored Kill, featuring the biggest map in Battlefield history. Read on for the very first details about these upcoming expansion packs and more.

We are happy to announce the first details on our June expansion pack Battlefield 3: Close Quarters. As the battlefield moves indoors, we will drop you into frantic and relentless infantry combat where the tight level design and vertical gameplay creates a highly competitive environment.

By introducing high definition destruction, everything from furniture to plaster can be shot to pieces, and rubble and broken pieces will pile up on the floor as the battle rages on. Like all of our themed expansion packs, this is much more than just new maps, as we also include new weapons, Assignments, and dog tags to bring back to the base game — much in the same way as we did for Battlefield 3: Back to Karkand.

But we’re not stopping there. This fall will see some truly epic all-out vehicle warfare in our third expansion pack, Battlefield 3: Armored Kill. Featuring new drivable tanks, ATV’s, mobile artillery, and more — and to top it off, the biggest map in Battlefield history.

We also have a fourth expansion pack lined up for you: Battlefield 3: End Game, but details about that one remain tightly guarded for now. In addition to these three expansion packs and our upcoming Spring update, we will also add a much requested feature: a fully integrated rent-a-server program for console players. We will detail this program fully later, closer to launch.

We hope you are as excited as we are about finally being able to tell you the first details about our upcoming plans for Battlefield 3. Return next week for the first gameplay trailer from Battlefield 3: Close Quarters, as well as media impressions from our event yesterday at Game Devopers Conference. In the meantime, click the image above for the full HD version of so you can use it as a wallpaper.

That’s it for now. Let us know what you think about our newly announced content by voting in the poll below!

Airplane bombing and armored kill! OO-*******-RAH!!!

  • Zchevy2man8 03.28.12 at 23:39

    Please bring airplane bombing back!

  • MicroTheFox 03.28.12 at 22:06

Alright, I am okay with the Close Quarters expansion as long as the Armored Kill expac. comes out soon I am more into large scale vehicle warfare and I think thats where Battlefield has always shined.

  • GhostMan171 03.24.12 at 16:26

    More co-operative maps please.

  • Justinbro13 03.23.12 at 18:32

All i ever wanted is maps that is epic as bfbc2 maps.Laguna presta, arica harbor, and etc.Bfbc2 maps blows bf3′s maps away.People thought thought that bf3 was going to be better than bfbc2 by a longshot but thats not the case.BFBC2 is way better than bf3.

  • bluedragoon200 03.21.12 at 19:11

why have you put rush and conquest together now i hate the rush game play it sucks

  • mega-tf 03.19.12 at 20:17

rent-a-server? are you serious??? it’s hard to cough up 60.00 for some of us for the game. you expect us to spend more money on map packs which your fixing the bugs, you think we that dumb? why should we pay for your fixes. bug repairs are free. the map packs are not. separate the bug fixes, if we can budget your packs. we’ll get… on a note, fix your servers player count. waiting for players to join is dumb. set player so if i want to play a 1vs1, or just to explore the maps without being shot. as the brits would say “that would be lovely”

    • TipiET 03.21.12 at 09:15

My question is, how the hell can you afford a system that runs BF3 if you can’t really afford the game itself? Seriously bro, something is wrong with your logic.

    • mister brookins 03.22.12 at 23:24

      Faith.. in humanity.. plummeting..
      Can’t take.. broken person.. seriously..

Dude, rent a server is an optional service for the console crowd that want to participate in what we already have on PC, being able to have your own dedicated server to set your rules and map rotations etc, and whether or not to make it private or public. Don’t commentate on that without understanding how it works.
And I can only assume that your understanding of the “Map pack bug fixes” thing extends to having to download the multiplayer update, or something? I have trouble believing you’re a PC gamer, so I’ll just point out that, that “paid for update” you’re talking about was actually entirely free, you had to pay for Karkand, sure, but that was a small file that unlocked the map pack.
If you’re on the PC version, then most of your points are moot, and silly, as TipiET points out. Seriously? Where is your money argument even coming from? Don’t buy the map pack, the patches don’t work the way you claim they do.

As for your closing comment, that’s not, nor has ever been, a stereotypical line in English society.

  • shaojoey 03.19.12 at 19:08

This looks awesome. been waiting for some new DLC, and the wait has paid. But what I’m really excited for? Rent-a-server. So pumped!

  • CheesyAndrew 03.17.12 at 14:49

I’m really looking forward to this since we, the console players will have some maps that will feel the same on pc. Till this very moment I felt a bit discriminated. It’s not that I can’t afford a pc good enough, it’s just that I really consider fpses to go on console not pc

  • andre01x 03.17.12 at 03:32

el mapa mas grande seria peron pero e cuantas personas sera!!!

  • Xiox231 03.16.12 at 17:31

Will people who pre-ordered the game get a deal like we did for Back to Karkand?

  • WBoy-NL 03.16.12 at 14:58

I Like the big maps, I like the Vhichle maps, I like the fly maps with Jets, And i like the quick reaction CQB maps also, I like Back 2 Karkrand, So I also gonna like the new CQB Maps and I ll buy it!
It all sounds verry cool, cant wait 2 play the new maps.
Battlefield3, is The Best Game Ever Made till now!!! Hoooaah!!

  • Alien_Scavenger 03.16.12 at 09:43

Is it free ( DLC ) or must be bought ?

    • H Brun 03.16.12 at 10:09

It’s the same amount of content as Back to Karkand (4 maps, 10 new weapons, 5 new dog tags, new Assignments…). It’s also the same price as Back to Karkand: $14.99 / 1200 MS Points.

  • Noize Rockr 03.15.12 at 16:29

what happened to battlefield they went from innovators to imitators. im so sick of them jamming this urban CQ scenario down my throat i understand the campaign story is urban but every DLC is going to be urban now. the best thing about battlefield 2 was the diversity never knew what the next map was jungle, winter desert.. why do they want to add more CQ every map pretty much bottlenecks somewhere on the map leading to CQ combat anywhere . URBAN,URBAN, URBAN .other then wake island i cant tell the back to Kirland maps apar…..THANKS FOR THE DIVERSITY EA…and your new conquest attack mode is the worst thing you’ve done.I love jus sitting there waiting for another squad to take a flag…

for the love of God please move on from construction building. You did it guys you mastered it. no one in the industry can match your abillity to design construction buildings and your abillity to copy and paste construction building on every map is a cut above the rest… well done BOYS i can tell you are hard at work…..

    • Xiox231 03.16.12 at 17:36

Did you not read the whole thing? They are making the game very diverse. The pack after Close Quarters is a HUGE vehicle battling pack, and then something after that.

  • Gunner_1st 03.15.12 at 09:37

What you have here with CQB is EA still feeding us CoD MW $hit! Why doesn’t EA get smart, and just make there own MW clone with their own twist, and leave MW emulation totally out of BF.

  • drumscarinbr 03.15.12 at 01:56

DICE, I think you could have used a better approach to themed DLC. Instead of all 4 maps being bound by a certain playstyle/map size, you could have used some other commonality. For example, DLC1: Frostbite (snow based maps), DLC2: Malaria (jungle based maps), DLC3: Danger Close (US/New York based maps).

There are those that like close quarters action, but they are in the minority, there’s no denying that. So, each DLC would have 1 tighter/CQB map, 1 medium/large map, 1 large map and 1 extra large map. This way, everyone would have been happy and you wouldn’t have slapped those who like ‘traditional’ maps in the face by making them wait 9-10 months (post-release) for what we thought we were buying in the first place! The game came out in October, the ‘Armored Kill’ will come out @ a year later?????…..REALLY? You sold us on ‘aggressive DLC’ ‘at least 4-5x the amount of BFBC2′…….but if you would have told us that the ‘mostly preferred’ maps were going to be out in October 2012…..myself and many others, probably wouldn’t have bought the game. There is much shame to be placed on you for that, not cool.

I will bet you anything that people will tire of the ‘Close Quarters’ maps in about a week, especially because most that like that style are younger and have attention spans shorter than their d**ks. Why do you think COD has to release maps so often? It’s because the maps are so small and shallow. Be sure that you guys set up polls and monitor them closely after release and you will see this.

  • Stinger1963 03.14.12 at 13:46

Close Quarter is this a battlefield game? just wondering…for me just fix the FU”#¤%& black screen….

  • venkatsaij 03.14.12 at 11:25

this is not such interesting i have seen the trailer but it is no interesting in absence of helicopeter and more jets and vehicles

  • CtOwNaTlArGe 03.14.12 at 02:16

Battlefield is clearly taking a step in the wrong direction. as i said in battlelog, close quarters maps are the last thing that battlefield needed. OBVIOUSLY they havent realised that ALMOST EVERY map is too close range already. Bad company 2 was WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYY better than this game ESPECIALLY IN THE GAMEPLAY, AND THE MAPS. WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO TAKE A STEP IN THE DIRECTION OF CALL OF DUTY? – CTOWNATLARGE. TRUE BF PLAYER SINCE 1942

  • Fr0styN1nja77 03.13.12 at 22:50

people stfu dice did not rush the game EA set the deadline and dice wanted to delay but ea always has to be on time. the cqc maps will add some variety to the large maps for those who were asking for it. they want to take their time and shake out as many bugs as they can before releasing. Bf3 was a test to see what the community will think so future dice games and dlc will be better. dice isn’t slacking off they are trying to see what we like or don’t and then they fix it even if it takes a while. besides you don’t have to buy the dlc…

  • TKOxI N K SxDUI 03.13.12 at 22:17

if i have anything to say to dice and at this ridiculous point through all they’re useless community sites! is stick to your core multiplayer outlines, like the battlefield 2 mc! Like the communtication between your squad and the entire team is absolutely garbage there is no way to communicate with your team while in a squad!!! Where is the ARTILLERY STRIKE!!! Hello why did you take that away from the MP!!! Stupid choice!!! Next is the squad horse sh*t why is there only squads of 4 it makes me sick that i have 20 friends online but i could only invite 3 that is a shame on a MP that thinks its on top of the world, and one major word is why the hell are you going to release bigger maps when the big maps right now are empty with 24 players sometimes you have to run all game just to get nowhere no fun and that gets really boring! i cant believe you wont unlock a 32 player server not all servers but have a choice for it why not the game “frontline” is 32 players online why cant bf3 do it!!! Keep core MP functions like i decribed from battlefield2 that was such a good game no one just knew about it because there is about 5 million more people on xbox live now then there was 5 years ago why did you completely screw up bf3, because i played bf2mc for more than 2 years ive played bf3 for 6 months and im already bored of it!!! PLEASE address my issues for it is for the best of the game not my thinking or enjoyment but for everyone!!!
…Dice please dont screw up the last good MP to come out!!!

i love this game !!!! i like the direction dice is taking with this game in catering for all people by addressing issues and releasing maps big and small that caters to all tastes..thats a good move

  • Kinetiks 03.13.12 at 17:53

Lol @ M0Nk4y, i thought that was a bit harsh. Personally i would love for these types of CQC maps added into the game.. Ok the BF series has been more or less all about the massive maps but this changes things up a little bit. The only feature i would say CoD has over BF is the pick-up-and-play gameplay quality and i think that adding in these maps would give BF that same quality. I honestly don’t see why people are complaining but then again you can’t keep everyone happy, it’s more new maps so im happy either way. Cheers DICE/EA!

  • El_GatoKinky 03.13.12 at 16:00

    totally agree with MONk4y

  • M0Nk4y 03.13.12 at 14:06

DICE/EA what the hell are you doing. If i wanted close quarters spawn/die/spawn die games i would have bought the latestest rehash of COD. This isnt cod why are you trying to make this game a cod game. You missed some very basic yet very imprtant game element out in BF3, 4 man squads?? WF and to top it not enough squad to cover 64 slot servers….yay i love lone wolfing in BF…..not!!! No Commander??? Are you serious?? BF was and foremost a team orientated expansive battle. Lured away form my CS days with BF42 and then BFV and BF2 all of it was team orientated thats what MADE this game. Now you have made this game in such a way as to make it impossible to play as a team re-lack of in squad VOIP. PC orientated development my left testie. Broken promisses and outright lies is all we have been fed nothign in anything you say or do now has any credibility with the community that got you where you are now. And juist because your ‘telemintary’ says metro clsoe quarter is the most played doesnt mean its the best map or that wewant more of it, dont you realise it’s the quickest and easiest way to level up kind of a legal statpadding. You know what DICE/EA i really hope you both crash and burn. I for one wont miss you

    • HUP_HOLLAND_HUP 03.13.12 at 17:54

Why the hell are you whining.. There are almost no maps right now with close combat, only Grand Bazaar, Seine Crossing and Operation Metro are close combat maps. Many people, including me, also like close combat maps, but they dont like COD. I think DICE is doing a great job now to add some real close combat maps and also some very big maps. In this way DICE makes everyone happy, people who like big maps get somethings and people who like close combat maps get something. You must realize that not everyone really like vehicles, so they also have to create some maps for those people. I like both and I really think they are doing a good job now. I think you are too hard towards DICE, they are trying to satisfy all their customers.

  • DOGGOFWAR83 03.13.12 at 11:39

learning that the close quarters dlc is only going to be 16 players killed me.Isnt it bad enought that we have to wait for the patch ranging from march till june

  • DiRollin 03.12.12 at 01:48

    Wheres The Incendiary Rounds!?!?

  • Spec_Ops_Gamer 03.12.12 at 00:37

EA you guys should really create a large map located somewhere in a mountain range in Eastern Europe. It would be cool to see something like a map with several small Russian posts that have defenses with HMGs, spots for people to set up mortars, etc. Also the U.S. team attacks by going downhill through thick forested areas with snow. With the new “high definition destruction” it would be cool to see trees cut down by 50. caliber MGs and snow flying in your face. Also I think many people would agree that if there were more vantage points for snipers and some spots where, lets say sneaky players, could make there way around defenses and flank the enemy it would be awesome. I would also like to add that the close quarters expansion pack sounds awesome because I get tired of vehicles sometimes and would like some room-to-room tactical play. Lastly [PLEASE!] add the standard wooden AK-47 assault rifle, either the M107 Barrett 50. cal or the M82A1 Barrett 50. cal, the MP5 sub-mg, a red dot scope for the U.S. side, and rocket pods for the scout helicopters. I don’t care if that doesn’t seem fair to players that scout helicopters have unguided rockets but I don’t think war is usually fair.

  • crashtom1964 03.11.12 at 20:44

I would like if they had a C-130 gunship that theres a pilot and then gunners plus otheres that can parachute that would be awsome

    • brett5432112345 03.12.12 at 00:46

or on a map that could be a spawn place…

  • 23439 03.11.12 at 20:36

what i think should be fixed or changed is mav collision or spawn camping with choppers and jets and destroying enemy jets in their spawn before they can take off or in the middle of taking off that should be changed because people quit games because of gay stuff like that

  • Young-C12 03.11.12 at 19:44

Stop complaing about CQC. Its a DLC. If you dont want it, DONT BUY IT. It is that simple. I would like to see the Battlefield experience for close combat.

  • Ghost_Shrimp 03.11.12 at 10:36

Close quarters is definitely not my thing. Looking forward to Armored Kill and any new weapons and updates.

  • PuppeteeR-CL7 03.11.12 at 10:17

I say this is spot on from DICE , as a clan we own a server which is full due it being INF only.
Also CQC or not im a big fan of it, as most of fps public, a lot of CoD fans rolled BF3 over Mw3 due its better game and offers all most same game play on some maps with better physics, and they can also have fun with aircrafts tanks etc on other maps. Just knowing that DICE devs are planing an all out BF3 2012 is great for most of us and that we get an fps mp game that will be a project for at least cupple of years , now it makes sanse that we have 145ranks in game and all those unlock.

  • Justinbro13 03.11.12 at 08:35

it probably will be great because you will be able to get more kills and probably not because of shotguns and famas since its close quarters.i think dice should have taken a different approach like have big maps and close quarters together.I wonder what the 10 new weapons going to be spas 12 stg aug, etc.Armored kill is going to be epic ATV ima be hauling ass. They included a atv in other maps in bf3.I guessing they are going to have a snow or desert map in armored kill

    • Justinbro13 03.11.12 at 08:36

They should have included a atv in other maps in bf3

  • xShadowFire13x 03.11.12 at 05:40

finally get to pwn those vehicle noobs who need to get legit, vehicles are made to engage other vehicles on videogames and plz don’t have the us-as12 on it either so thats people who use the legit weps can get their kdr back up seriously i swear every prestige either is a vehicle noob or automatically has to have a usas-12 with frag rounds

  • x W3Sz37 03.11.12 at 04:29

It seems pretty cool to finally get new weapons as well too, and more destruction like in bad company 2.

  • mmmgilly 03.11.12 at 04:24

Why don’t you realise DICE that you are the developers not EA, and show them the fans want BATTLEFIELD experiences not COD experiences. The poll shows it. Swap the release dates of armored kill and close quarters. you will get more money from it.

  • RATEDRYAN 03.11.12 at 03:14

im a BIG battlefield fan im very excited about the close quarters dlc . i just wanna know if we got to pay for it? does the back to karkand code include all map packs .

  • BittySHADOW 03.11.12 at 01:46

also thw cod maps are going to be nothing but USAS12 nonsense,,,

  • BittySHADOW 03.11.12 at 01:44

im really sad to find out i will have to pay for my Platoon to play in one server… this is really concerning, is this becoming about the fan base or the profits.?? its nice to know i have to spend more then what should be a delicious “gift” to fans.

  • drumscarinbr 03.11.12 at 00:29

Come on, DICE! Isn’t it crystal clear to you as to what ‘we’ want? Look at your own poll in this blog post. Well over twice the amount of people want the larger ‘Battlefield’ style of maps and/or ‘the patch’ more than the ‘Officefield 3′ COD meat grinder maps/buildings. I’ll bet you anything that if you had this poll in a higher traffic area, we’d see things swing even further in favor of ‘AK’ and the patch.

Please reconsider your strategy. This is a slap in the face to your most loyal fanbase. Not cool.

  • B00ME 03.11.12 at 00:12

Wait, let me get this straight. One of the most requested features was “rentable servers”? I can understand private servers being requested a lot, but for that to turn into rentable servers is amazing. Only an EA owned company go from private to rentable. Congrats on finding another way to nickel and dime your customers. You guys should be proud.

  • YUGOS_72 03.10.12 at 23:45

we need big aka bf1942 maps.. i will not buy ant BF game anymore with small maps

  • mr shifta 03.10.12 at 23:27

I know you guys (DICE) are probably governed by what EA wants and expects these days (and by the new Porsche they just put in your garage), but I think it’s a bit of a kick in the face to your dedicated long term battlefield fanbase to bring the ‘COD’ fan wooing maps (Close Quaters) to the DLC first.
For the real BF fans, having to wait until september/october for the real BF maps with vehicles is utterly ridiculous and a complete sellout. Show us some respect and make those COD loving imbeciles wait!

  • KiLLaZ87 03.10.12 at 23:10

Why we need a CoD like map pack dlc?WHY.
    This is battlefield not Codderfield.

  • FREDxExCROOGAx 03.10.12 at 20:09

More people voted for armored kill because I think the expect to find air supuriority which I hope they do make it :(

  • Dark3st Killa 03.10.12 at 18:50

    Honestly idk lol

  • Chikokishi 03.10.12 at 10:02

Honestly, Dedicated servers are cool and all, but all I really want is to just play with my friends with the game modes you already have. I dont want to spend money and have all this epic control… that I dont need.

    • Chikokishi 03.10.12 at 10:05

I guess I would like an explanation as to why in COD or Halo I can join my friends and play games with out needing this dedicated server, but in BF I can not? Anyone know?

      • skyflyerone013 03.10.12 at 17:46

yeah i think its because this game is MUCH more intense and would require a very good computer to run a server and play bf3 simultaniously

I would pay wateever I have to. To play with a 64 player matchs on consoles it would be so fun plz dosomething like that on the custom servers u guys are renting make it worth it need more players plz andthis is the best game I play so far ^_^

    • Brocass 03.11.12 at 21:17

If you’re prepared to pay whatever, why not just buy a PC?

  • DeanBriggz 03.10.12 at 02:57

After checking out a Close Quarters gameplay video from the GDC on YouTube I’ve gotta say I’m not looking forward to it at all, so I’ll avoid it and wait until Armored Kill is released. The map shown (and yes I know there will most likely be other Close Quarters maps in the pack) is absolutely tiny, similar to that of Call of Duty. I play BF3 so I can avoid the CoD-style maps, DICE – so why do you insist on pushing the game in this direction?

  • hector2670 03.09.12 at 21:55

im pretty good at this game add me if yu play on PSN: hector0150

  • MeGa100HeAdShOt 03.09.12 at 21:16

People stop complaining Close Quarters is a console dlc simply because of the fact that its probably going to be small which is good for console bad for pc but Armored Kill is going to have the biggest maps yet for battlefield 3 which is going to be epic for the pc community but not for us console players theyre giving every one what they want theyre giving us console players small maps and you guys huge maps plus you dont have to buy close quarters if you dont want to but dont complain because armored kill is really going to be a pc dlc since its going to be huge and we console players can only have 24 players

  • RandyZie 03.09.12 at 20:40

They really should look at all the polls they do, CQC and TDM don’t do well at all. Yet that’s what we hear the most about. We were promised the biggest bf maps ever. But they haven’t delivered, and wont until DLC 8+ months after release. The flags are too close together and when asked why there is no 2 seat jets they say “we want more people to be on the objective”. It’s clear to see that they are only focusing on 16 player consoles. Very sad. Let’s hope this patch they have been pushing back (which they should of broken apart and released weekly or monthly) and the 2ND dlc fixes this game.

  • Trooper JD279 03.09.12 at 20:03

This is all great news (especially the upcoming update), but I still want to know if we’ll finally be able to cook ‘nades. Didn’t see that mentioned in the update list, but I do realize the list is not complete.

Regarding DLC, I want many of the vehicles from BF2 brought back. Primarily aircraft – especially the two-seater planes like the Fullback and Strike Eagle. I also really want the Hind, Blackhawk, Fulcrum, Hokum, and Apache brought in. I miss them.

Ground attack and fighter planes should be mixed up in maps for both Rush and Conquest modes, and for crying out loud DICE, please replace the A-10 on Kharg Island Rush mode. An A-10 launching from a carrier? You know better than that.

Lastly, I REALLY miss the Chinese maps, vehicles, and forces from BF2. They were stupidly epic and I wish at least some were brought back.

  • cubeline82 03.09.12 at 16:46

finish and fix dice all bugs and make new dlc!

  • Stormrider_333 03.09.12 at 16:06

“End Game” = Dinosaur Mode??? XD

    • MrSTROZZI 03.09.12 at 23:11

      Not bad.

    • nl L3G3ND 03.10.12 at 14:55

if something in comparisan of zombie mode would be released they sure wont do it as last dlc. juse your head and the cells in them. lol

  • TIMov66 03.09.12 at 15:45

I think Close Quarters will be a good DLC.Will every one do DICE a favour and stop Whining,All your doing is making your self sound like a little girl on her period. This just in one of the New Equipments for the Close Quarter DLC will be Tampons,Do to the huge number of girls crying on thier forum

    • Brocass 03.11.12 at 21:13

Hi, I’m English; what’s your native language?

  • BF3_Killa_69 03.09.12 at 14:07

so many negative comments…guy if u dont like it dont buy it!nobody force u to…i love that close quarters idea cause i like to have a choice!i can’t play cq maps all the time but i can’t play open maps all the time.hopefully now i can choose what i want!thank u DICE! :-)

    • T000LS 03.09.12 at 15:16

Are you playing on PC? NO? Then who cares! PC’ers are having a BAD time with all these little maps that we ALREADY have!

      • TIMov66 03.09.12 at 15:34

What were the PC sales compaired to the Xbox sales?

        • Brocass 03.11.12 at 21:14

What were the Skoda sales compared to Ferrari?

  • HollaOjOj 03.09.12 at 12:55

All maps from BF3 and B2k arem made for all game mods. BC2 is better in this way. On all maps we can fight in TDM, SQTDM. We don’t need small maps it’s not BF gameplay. Unless you plan to reless this COD DLC for free along with epic patch

  • T000LS 03.09.12 at 12:54

Caspian & FireStorm are Medium sized maps, I’d really like some BIG maps for a change please – Little CQB maps are for the Bad Company series!!

  • Brocass 03.09.12 at 12:21

You love telemetry DICE, try looking at your own poll to see nobody wants this Counter Strike Office DLC! If we wanted that, we would be playing Counter Strike! We want BATTLEFIELD MAPS and the LONG OVERDUE PATCH!
    You are killing Battlefield.

Peolple are leaving in droves. Server owners are letting their servers go and they certainly don’t want to continue paying for 64 slots for your crappy 16 player DLC!

Get a grib DICE and return to the Battlefield you used to make instead of trying (and failing) to be something else!

  • Justinbro13 03.09.12 at 11:29

Close quarters will probably be good.Operation metro is one of the best maps and seine crossing because you be able to get so much kills.

    • Brocass 03.09.12 at 12:11

Groan. i willz be ablez to get so much killz.

    • T000LS 03.09.12 at 12:37

You MEANT to say “because you be able to get so many UNLOCKS” – the ONLY reason people play those little anti-battlefield maps!

  • NO_FEAR 03.09.12 at 02:52

Rented US North East server chock full of GO FAST and get the hell off my porch sonny

  • ThaFallen5oulja 03.09.12 at 02:07

ffuck all these people hating on da game… its a game that DICE made cuzz they like it and wanted to experiance….. if you dont like it dont buy it and there wont be any problems duh

    • Brocass 03.09.12 at 12:12

And here is one of your new illiterate fans, DICE! Congrats!

  • SHATTER SNIPE 03.09.12 at 02:01

Hell yes to rentable servers for console! Finally we can make fun matches :)
And really, you have to not only make CQB maps but an expansion all for CQB. What a waste. Battlefield is about vehicles and huge maps.

  • dicktaid 03.08.12 at 20:52

“You don’t kill CoD by trying to be CoD. You kill CoD by making a better shooter.”

    - Alan Kertz, Feb 7, 2011.

Add that to the list of lies; “PC lead platform”, “Squad leader can call in artillery”, “It’s only beta; final release will have much better destruction”, etc. Good job, DICE… good job indeed.

  • SquarepushrCLE 03.08.12 at 20:20

The poll results are skewed as most of the people calling for the patch are the ones who are fed up with usas frag rounds. In fact I wouldnt be suprised if you split that particular result into cqc vs armored kill cqc would hold the majority.

  • averixredrum 03.08.12 at 20:07

i think all you complainers, should just shut up and enjoy the game, instead of b!tching all the time.. maybe you’ll have more fun.. just because you dont like it, doesn’t mean everybody else feels the same way.. and really, you try patch a game, that 12 million players play, also try to meet their demands.. the only thing i hate about this game is the corner campers, those people who join the other team because the other side is losing, and everytime i join a game, its just about to end and i’m on the losing side.. that happends alot..

  • m3c 03.08.12 at 18:07

    RENT servers on console?Close quarters?

    Are you crazy DICE?

Consoles != PC and this is Battlefield, not CoD.

  • BigWoopMagazine 03.08.12 at 18:03

Oh, and finally – you should have had this poll months ago if you really had this much trouble telling that bigger maps + more vehicles = better; and that small, close quarters, no vehicles, run-in-circles-like-an-idiot maps = shitty.

  • BigWoopMagazine 03.08.12 at 17:54

Wow, really guys? This is extremely disappointing. Operation Metro is by far the worst map you’ve released for probably any Battlefield game, and without a doubt the worst in BF3. Now you want to release more tight close quarters maps with no vehicles? Are you nuts? This is the opposite of what your fans want – not to mention that it’s taking a total of nine months to release, what happened to this “aggressive” DLC plan?

And seriously, fix the squads!!! Seriously – it still says [“Playing with friends has never been this easy”
    - Fredrik Loving, Battlelog Producer] on the front page of the Battelog and it’s the biggest fallacy, every time I join a game with friends it splits our squads and puts us on opposite teams. If I have more than one friend in my squad it’s near impossible to get us all back together. It’s clear that Fredrik Loving is lying to all of us, and has probably never tried to play this game with any of his friends.

  • Djihaad 03.08.12 at 17:33

So is this Close Quarters going to be USAS-12 frag fest? That sounds awful!

  • drumscarinbr 03.08.12 at 17:23

WRONG DIRECTION, DICE. It’s bad enough that you’re making us wait an eternity to patch the game, now on top of that, you want to offer ‘Close Quarters’? The last time I checked, this game was called ‘Battlefield’……..not ‘Officefield’. This game needs more run and gun like a submarine needs a screen door. Give us ‘proper’ Battlefield maps, you haven’t really done it yet with any of the existing maps, like you said you were going to. Remember?

Look at the results of this poll, the other Battlelog threads and all the negative comments in this one and it’s easy to see what the players want.

I’m growing weary of the never ending let downs in this game.

  • King_Thrawn 03.08.12 at 15:50

Fix the actual game before you drop any of the DLC – ESPECIALLY the DLC that no one wants (CQ COD maps for 16 players …). Why on earth is the “lead platform” (PC) having to wait for the patch that is probably already finished (and was promised in February) until the DLC can be released too?

I’m very disappointed in DICE – I have played every PC battlefield that has been made, BF3 is not a true battlefield game. I won’t be buying the next DICE product – tired of getting lied to and crapped on so EA/DICE can take baths in tubs full of money by selling out to the XBOX COD children.

  • Yogi3o3 03.08.12 at 15:00

As for the rent-a-server feature, while I know it’ll be popular I don’t know of anyone who requested a ‘rent’ option. Custom matches should be a given and when the new RB6 comes out BF will be feeling the impact as they will be left with nothing but COD run and gunners while the people who enjoy true tactical style play will leave.

  • Yogi3o3 03.08.12 at 14:57

The most popular content is Armored Kill, really!? The people that voted for this are the same friggin’ idiots that jump into a vehicle and spawn-camp the other side, destroying all the vehicles before anyone can get into them and does nothing for actual game-play. What would be nice and what would slow the game down and prevent the run and gun style like COD is a decent cover system like in RB6. Something as simple as that would impact actual game-play and get BF closer to a tactical style as it was promised to be.

    • DualFace 03.08.12 at 16:47

It’s a lot better than the majority pushing DICE to continue thinking that it’s okay to attempt killing their own franchise by completely turning it into COD—which they’re still trying to do. Ugh.

I actually voted for the patch/update. This game is so far long gone beyond needing fixes it’s pathetic. What I find more laughable is that even though this huge update is FINALLY on it’s way, these new DLC are just gonna fuck things up again. LOL, and we’ll need new huge updates again.

      *Le Sigh*

  • FrostyUK 03.08.12 at 14:52

Look at the telemetry Dice, people are more interesting in the proper DLC (Armored Kill) and a proper update for the game. Not this stupid CoD style map pack coming out in June… GET IT TOGETHER.

    • Brocass 03.11.12 at 21:08

Unfortunately a poll is not telemetry and DICE do not take any notice of polls, tbh I don’t even know why they bother with them because they never took any notice of the ones on their own BF3 EAUK forums!

  • HollaOjOj 03.08.12 at 14:43

Destruction. I don’t think we will be able to destroy the house it will be worse than in basic bf3 maps. BC2 still rulez.

  • HollaOjOj 03.08.12 at 14:38

Good Job. Split the community. New 3 maps new servers. Maps for BF should be large not 2mx2m. Casula COD mod on.

  • allcaponne35 03.08.12 at 13:06

I wish they would equip all players with usas frag rounds on the last presentation of the expantion pack Close Quarters, just to show the true close combat (read close fraging) expirience. But I did not see the single solder shooting with frags…lool I can imagine this would become the most hated expansion pack ever and the matter opf time whan users rename it to Close Fraging epansion pack.
The Metro has become imposible to enjoy anymore within all the frags…can’t imagine Close Quarters become an sucsess… RIP BF3

  • mc2w 03.08.12 at 07:32

You forgot to put CS:GO in the poll, since I’m not excited for the current options that are all centered around a game made by a sellout company that doesn’t give two bits about their consumer base.

  • Slopcicle 03.08.12 at 06:49

I hate all those people who say that the new DLC is catering to a COD crowd I mean how retarded are they? Did they not see the phrase “biggest map in Battlefield history”? I mean all they do is bitch and complain when they see “close quarters” and not care about anything else. HD destruction… sounds fucking awesome! But oh no, they just have to sit there and run their mouth about how it’s catering to a COD crowd when in fact it’s absolutely not! They are an example of the downfall of society. Maybe they should try reading before they talk.

    • DeadHand_Locke 03.08.12 at 07:12

To be honest, names like Slopcicle are more likely to bring the downfall of society than any opinion someone has on an upcoming DLC. But I digress.

I am excited for the Armored Kill DLC but lament the fact that Close Quarters even exists as a DLC.

    • -Sxx- 03.08.12 at 14:03

Funny, think you should do the same. I don’t really want to get into this discussion but the first DLC coming is what… One which features more CQC, just because of the popularity of Metro, which is terrible, and reminds us of DICE’s real goal. The game, is clearly geared towards catering to the COD crowd with the map designs (which aren’t big, we don’t even use the full map) and the crutches. The features ‘most’ of us wanted, weren’t in the game at all, and only now seem to be slowly coming to the surface.

There may be a ‘big map’ coming with AK (also note it’s ONE map which they’re claiming is ‘big’), but there should’ve already been the big maps in vanilla BF3, like they promised us originally. Shouldn’t have to release a DLC to do that.

  • Kibax 03.08.12 at 06:29

Did you really just say “high definition destruction”? How about you stick to your routes instead of blatantly trying to copy COD. I honestly feel embarrassed for you guys. You’re apt at making games, but your talents are going in the complete wrong direction. Do you even remember 2142? You had huge maps WITH tight combat (via Titans). What happened to that?

    Oh yeah, COD.

    • Kibax 03.08.12 at 06:29

    • Slopcicle 03.08.12 at 06:44

How retarded are you? Did you not see the phrase “biggest map in Battlefield history”? I mean all you do do is bitch and complain when you see “close quarters” and not care about anything else. HD destruction… sounds fucking awesome! But you, oh no, you just have to sit there and run your mouth about how it’s catering to a COD crowd when in fact it’s absolutely not! You my dear friend are an example of the downfall of society. Try reading before you talk.

      • BigWoopMagazine 03.08.12 at 18:12

“frantic and relentless infantry combat where the tight level design and vertical gameplay” is coming well before “the biggest map in BF history”. Let’s skip the first part, and get to the good part, because clearly these things aren’t equivalent. So, if my rough math is correct, I have to wait a full year since the release of BF3 for a true DLC that’s worth it – since Back to Karkand is really just a rehash of old maps that I really didn’t need again.

We’re not the CoD crowd! We’re the BF3 crowd! Cater to the BF3 crowd dammit! Is this really a hard concept?! You don’t steal customers by imitating – you steal them by sticking to what makes you great, and making it better, and showing people why that’s better. This is just another step in the huge downhill slide this company has been running down for a while now… it’s unoriginal, cliche, and disgusting.

      • Brocass 03.11.12 at 21:04

“How retarded are you? Did you not see the phrase “biggest map in Battlefield history”?”

Sure. I saw it when they first advertised BF3. Guess what, they lied!

    • Luggruff 03.08.12 at 13:38

Saying what Slopcicle said, how retarded are you? Not agreeing that it’s not catering the CoD crowd, of course it is! It’s business and if a bit of close quarters enters the battlefield then they will win more market shares. And guess what! If you don’t want to play close quarters, you don’t have to! Simple as that.

I play Conquest 99% of the time, but do you see me complaining about having options to that? Sometimes I like jumping into a bit of rush too, or SQD deathmatch.. it’s beautiful not having to swith game, to swith game mode.

  • DeadHand_Locke 03.08.12 at 05:38

Honestly, I will only purchase Close Quarters if it comes with a monthly charge. That way I know I’m playing Call of Duty.

  • Slapshot68 03.08.12 at 05:28

I would rather not hear about future “epicness” until the core of the game is where it was meant to be. For that I will wait patiently because I don’t want to see another rushed release. We saw how that battle plan worked out. I know the talented men and women in the trenches at DICE are working hard and my faith is in them and thank i thank them – Hooah!!!! However, if the command at DICE decide to blow more smoke I will just hop in their proposed enhanced disabled vehicle and reverse on out of BF3.

  • theC0L0SS 03.08.12 at 04:53

close quarters is exactly what i wanted from bf3 before it came out. its my favorite game but overall its a more long range game. so this is AWESOME!!!

  • sfscriv 03.08.12 at 04:53

Wow! What a disappointment. More generic Call of duty maps? Really?

  • SizzleMyWizzle 03.08.12 at 04:04

Can’t wait DICE! I hope these are going to blow me away.

  • R_A_V_E_N 03.08.12 at 02:13

I haven’t thumbed through all the comments but the votes suggest that most Battlefield players may not take “close quarters” very well. What we love about Battlefield is being able to blow stuff up; however, I can’t wait to see how DICE/EA handles this decision.

    • SEAL62505 03.08.12 at 02:16

I am AMPED UP for CQ action!!!

      • BigWoopMagazine 03.08.12 at 18:15

You really love getting all those frag rounds in the face, huh? Have fun fighting a bunch of twitchy trigger fingers with the skill level of 3 year old crack addicted blind folded babies and losing to their explosive rapid fire potato launchers.

    • SizzleMyWizzle 03.08.12 at 04:05

      I agree.

  • Hullbreacher 03.08.12 at 02:07

While I am excited about these expansions, the most important thing to many players including myself is a fully integrated, in-game VoIP solution for BF3 supported by EA.

It is absolutely crazy that a game that involves as much teamwork and cooperation as BF3 would go this long–let alone ship–without in-game VoIP. This is something that needs to be developed.

  • peterman21 03.08.12 at 01:56

DICE/EA shouldn’t have released this game in the first place until it was fully ready i bought a game that was even ready a game shouldn’t need this many patches well i don’t think dice/ea are even listening I wonder what would happen if everyone stop playing battlefield? i wonder what they would do. as i’m to the point were just going to stop playing this game forever i don’t need this crap where i have to wait 4-5 months for a damn patch not to mention that’s they are going to charge players to rent a server on consoles what the fuck is wrong with you! you greedy bastards

  • DeadHand_Locke 03.08.12 at 01:56

While I commend your efforts to transform BF3 into Call of Duty, halfhearted efforts to make BF3 into a serious close quarters shooter are short sighted. I think EA saw how many Operation Metro Servers are always full and ran to DICE and said “JESUS CHRIST, MAKE LIEK 10 MOAR MAPS JUST LIKE METRO AND MAKE SURE ERRRRRRBODIES GUN FIRES FRAG ROUNDS. WE ARE GONNA MAKE A KILLING…”

    • Luggruff 03.08.12 at 13:40

What’s wrong with drawing a crowd? Close quarters won’t remove your possibilities to play other game modes.

      • Brocass 03.11.12 at 21:06

No it won’t, as soon as they decide to add them.

  • StormexDante 03.08.12 at 01:40

woah woah woah… Slow down DICE.
Before any more expansion packs are allowed, you must meet requirements.
    1. Fix the problems that have been here since launch. That Patch list is indeed great, but it MUST be released in March. The community cannot wait any longer… IT MUST COME SOON
    2. There is also one huge bug that needs fixing… There still seems to be no word on battlerecorder… What the F… You do realize that your last game, 7 years ago, had this feature… What the hell propelled you to remove such a feature from your game? What was going through your mind when you decided “Hey, let’s remove a great feature from our older game! What a great idea!”
    3. Battlerecorder
    4. Battlerecorder
    5. Battlerecorder
    6. Spectator Mode
    7. Battlerecorder
    8. Battlerecorder
    9. Battlerecorder
    10. Battlerecorder.

  • Tomknot 03.08.12 at 01:23

    First of all: great game!
And for what I wish to see in the game:
1: The way you break through glass, using the knife… Why not use the butt of the weapon or your foot?
    2: winter maps :D

And while I am at it.. What’s the deal of having three different handguns, while the only different thing about them is the attachment? if I for instant would like to get all the handgun dog tags I need to get 300 kills with.. well, the same weapon!? Why don’t make it like all the other weapons?

And you should also have the option to choose what settings the weapon should have when I start.
settings like flashlight on or off (same for laser ofc.) and if I want it in single, burst or full automatic.

Hope I’ll see any of these changes, if not in a dlc, maybe in a new game…. :D

  • drumscarinbr 03.08.12 at 01:18

DICE, please don’t release the ‘close quarters’ DLC first. In my opinion, I think you should not release it at all. It goes against the very thing that makes this large-scale warfare series stands for.

First and foremost, please release the patch and slightly tweak the existing maps.

After the patch, then release ‘Armored Kill’. If you stand by your word in being a company that LISTENS TO IT’S FANS, then all you have to do is look at the very poll that’s in this posting. Right now, more than two times the amount of players want to see the patch and/or ‘Armored Kill’ over the ‘Close Quarters’ idea (15% vs 35%).

How much clearer does it have to be???????

    • TG Endzone 03.08.12 at 01:28

Listening to fans means the community as one voice, not one person who dislikes one of the themes for the pack. Just don’t buy it wait til Armored kill I and most of everyone else playing are just excited to finally see some new stuff it all looks promising.

      • drumscarinbr 03.08.12 at 01:58

It’s not just my opinion, bro. Look at the poll DICE posted in this thread, it’s 16% vs. 35%! Look at all the other comments in the Battlelog forums as well. There are many people that are not happy with this DLC news.

      • Brocass 03.09.12 at 12:15

Some folk have no ideaa what Battleifield is meant to be and as you say – are just pleased to get any old bit of smelly turd!

June patch update/dlc? And Dice wonders why Call of Duty kicks their ass year after year.

    • BigWoopMagazine 03.08.12 at 18:18

And they’ll probably keep talking shit too. I thought they’d back it up after the attitudes they had around E3 last year, but so far this has been an epic fail, first by imitating CoD with their horrendous single player campaign that failed to embrace anything that makes BF3, and now with 9 month later DLC that again imitates CoD with close quarters maps. WTF?!

  • n-miller5 03.07.12 at 23:54

hears a simple proposal FIX THE FUCKING GAME THEN BRING OUT DLC

  • Aj b33m3R 03.07.12 at 23:39

I sincerely appreciate the new DLC and look forward to it however, asking the community to wait till June for a patch is asking for too much.

You can’t effectively test any game balancing updates until they fall into the hands of the community that will inevitably find ways to manipulate them. We really need a patch sooner than June mostly because the next patch will be inherently flawed and will need patching itself.

May 1st is latest acceptable date for a patch release. I’m not griping, I do appreciate DICE’s efforts, but we are playing a broken game and that’s not righteous.

  • TC4SPAZINOUT 03.07.12 at 23:36

I appreciate DICE’s hard work. but i dont like being lied to i didnt say i would give you dlc dice said it dont say it unless you mean it.. ive been following every piece of info dice has released and they said timely dlc meaning soon very soon.. now spring .spring is in 2 weeks where i live not 3 month dice told us in a press release ps3 would have clans guess what they lied

  • TC4SPAZINOUT 03.07.12 at 23:25

i dont blame devs or cm.. some pencil pusher came up with this great idea in a meeting let slow down the dlc………. we dont want to make lots of cash

  • Brocass 03.07.12 at 23:17

BF vets have to wait a whole year from BF3′s release date to potentially get a Battlefield worthy map and from what we’ve seen so far this is only going to be yet another disappointment.
What happened to the aggressive DLC plans DICE?
What happened to “you don’t copy CoD to beat CoD”?
What happened to the original people at DICE that knew how to make a real Battlefield game?

    • TC4SPAZINOUT 03.07.12 at 23:22

thank for the post hit nail on the head

    • tesus88 03.07.12 at 23:44

Can’t agree more. I was excited to be getting a new map pack every 2 months perhaps, but it seems they waaaaay over exaggerated the claim that we’d be getting a lot more content, unless these truly are all as “huge” as they say they are.

They’d better make Back to Karkand look like a drop in the water compared to each of these on their own, if they’re gonna act like 3 and 1/2 expansions is more than we were expecting anyway

  • TC4SPAZINOUT 03.07.12 at 23:14

you leave randy kizz a55 ….times have changed they maid hundred of million off us not a a million like game used to make… making maps isnt as hard as making the game it self dlc isnt new did you just crawl out from under a rock there been dlc for about 11 years thats new lmao

    • RandyOglestein 03.07.12 at 23:21

No, I’ve been playing games on PC since 2000. DLC was rare until XBox Live came around. I’m no “kizz a55″. I appreciate DICE’s hard work. They have given this game more attention than any other developer I have ever seen. They have listened to the player base more than any other developer I have ever seen. How many patches have you downloaded for BF3? and how many have you downloaded for MW3? And of those, how many included things that the player base asked for? I have played BF since 1942. I have loved every BF game since 1942 (except maybe Vietnam, which was DICE Canada) and I am a hardcore BF fan, and I know what the core of a BF game should be. I have my share of BF3 disappointments, but overall, I love BF3, and I respect DICE for all their work.

      • Brocass 03.08.12 at 00:30

No. they want to continue to sell DLC due to the fact they aren’t going to make a new Battlefield every year (apparently). The only things they have listened to the community for are nerfs and buffs to weapons. They haven’t listened to a single community request regarding map design or features – apart from the commorose because there was enough of an outcry before release that they ended up sticking a broken one in to secure sales. All DICE do is look at their telemtry to see what is popular and that is how this close quarters crap was born due to the stat padding, stat whores looking for fast rank ups in Op Metro.

  • RandyOglestein 03.07.12 at 23:09

I get so annoyed by all the morons QQing about “Oh, 7 months in for the first “map pack”, about time!”. You all need to realize that “DLC” is a new development. For YEARS updates to games came in the form of patches and expansions. It took a year or more for the first expansion, and if the game was good, maybe it would get a second or third. Map packs were unheard of before CoD. DICE is not Infinity Ward, and BF is not CoD. They don’t release crappy map packs. They release expansions that are generally worth your $15. DICE is doing their best fixing crap and giving the players what they want. Accept it for what it is and be thankful, or leave.

    • Brocass 03.07.12 at 23:13

Can’t you see from the footage that that map is taken straight out of the single player campaign? So basically it was easy work for DICE to make this a MP version. I will bet that the next DLC with “the largest ever Battlefield map” is taken directly from the Thunder Run mission in the campaign too.

      • RandyOglestein 03.07.12 at 23:23

How do you know how to convert a SP level to a MP level? Have you ever done it? I know I haven’t, so don’t make speculations about things that you know nothing about

        • Brocass 03.08.12 at 00:26

You don’t need to “convert” anything, all the models/assets and textures are already made. you just need to place them where you want for a MP map.

  • TC4SPAZINOUT 03.07.12 at 23:08

why was everyone and dev and cm on twitter hinting that good news was coming soon . i thought maps were coming last month or at least a update wtf.. soon does not equal 3 fn months wth hell. lies lies after lies love the game hate the lies ……….changing values from 3 to 5 does need to take 6 month to figure out wth. to all you pansy that say we are ungrateful f off ..dlc was said to come every 3 months not 4 or 5 or 6 months o yeah here some great fn new your gonna wait 3 more fn months omggggggggggggggggggg leave us in the dark then act like your gonna start being a cm and listen to the players lol im so pissed this shit ruined my day and my 3 month wtf .a new ipad comes out every 3 months but a patch cant wth … by the time content comes we will have moved on is that your plan to lose cash well if you dont want my cash keep it up bf2 did same shit with Vietnam pak worthless waited for ever to not buy it lmao fools great job .if your love cash talk to me ill show you how to make cash not miss out on it.. you capitalize while the group is still interested not when the fall a sleep waiting for 4 maps wth this may have been good news if was to come next month f you dice for letting a great game die early

  • tesus88 03.07.12 at 23:04

I’m for it! As for new weapons, I’m amazed to feel like the only one making this complaint, but WHERE is the Steyr AUG and all of its variants?!?!? This game follows such a good theme of offering different versions of so many lines of quality infantry rifles, but completely ignores one of the most popular and effective rifles in the world, with versions specifically designed as Carbines, SMGs (or as EA prefers, PDWs), and LMG variants, in multiple calibers. We. Need. The. AUG!!!!! (read: AUGs)

    • Brocass 03.08.12 at 00:33

Didn’t you know, all the guns have pretty much exactly the same stats anyway, it’s only different pixels and sound. You can thank the nerf sayers for that.

  • Ryuzaki57 03.07.12 at 23:03

So the reckon kit is not becoming of any use in the future :( it’s not like DICE ever cared for snipers anyway… I suppose the best things I have to look forward to are the spring update and the new console servers.

  • Luggruff 03.07.12 at 23:02

..I mean, in comparison, I rent a webhotel with unlimited bandwith, storage, sql databases and whatever for the price of £30 a YEAR. That’s cheaper than 32 players on that shitty site.

  • Luggruff 03.07.12 at 23:00

..though, if it’s as pricy as this then you can just drop that update. A pund a month for EACH player slot? Sickening, considering every other game in the history of great games wich have let players set up private matches for as long as I can remember, for FREE!

  • tootupontheroof 03.07.12 at 22:40

    Very, very poor decisions.

    Poor choice of DLC.

    Too late.

    8 vs. 8 – what?

Where on earth is the real Battlefield?

    Really, really disappointing.

    • Hullbreacher 03.08.12 at 02:22

I played MW2 a ton, and when I got BF3 i realized how unbelievably lame CoD multiplayer is (let’s be honest, on rails though it was, the original CoD:MW sp was EPIC), and how its just an arcade-style fragfest with no beginning and no end. BF3′s teamwork, vehicles, + realism was an awesome contrast. CQ looks like they’re trying to be CoD. BF3 is BETTER THAN THIS. Huge maps rule. Teamwork rules. Team DM w/random spawns in a close-quarters environment sounds like CoD to me. I’m very disappointed!

  • calvinia 03.07.12 at 22:33

I didnt even give a chance to MW3 before, but BF3 got me so frustrated with the lack of updates and general disconnection from DICE that I just bought MW3 in for the time being… Expansion in JUNE!?! SIX months for an expansion? Really?

Although they are totally different games I HATE what BF3 has become by trying to compete with CoD. If you really want to compete with them then at least imitate the GOOD things guys. What I mean is that I’ve given up on Battlefield and DICE, I won’t change to CoD but I’ll be looking for something else. BF series is dead for now, might be coming back to it later in a couple of years…

  • ThundrH4wk_ 03.07.12 at 22:29

RENT-A-SERVER YESS!! PRIVATE MATCH BABY OH YEAH!! *throws wallet at monitor*

  • B2G Rogue 03.07.12 at 21:55

no one knows yet it does state that info on server renal will be released closer to to release date

  • trasher-05 03.07.12 at 21:52

    :((((( WHAT IS RENT-A-SERVER?!?

    • trasher-05 03.07.12 at 21:54

      wait…. nvm

    • NX-1079 03.10.12 at 02:03

DICE will let you rent your own public/private server for a certain amount of money I think it’s around $40 USD. From there you can customize it as in change the number of tickets and so on.

  • WilliAmDaMan 03.07.12 at 21:51

I will buy close quarters, but I am more excited for armored kill because of the new vehicles! Plus larger maps have more of a battlefield feel to it than smaller ones.

  • YourMothersPink 03.07.12 at 21:37

Yah, and I hope we don’t have to pay every time we want to “rent-a-server”

  • YourMothersPink 03.07.12 at 21:36

What’s the most popular map… Op. Metro! Although my favorite is kharg Island, I do love metro on conquest. That’s why there coming out with Close quarters first.

You PC players love to complain though, like someone owes you something, DICE has done more for you than anyone.

  • trasher-05 03.07.12 at 21:35

    Again i ask….

    • WilliAmDaMan 03.07.12 at 21:49

You can actually get your own personal server, Customize it how you want, and go bananas on it.

  • chacale47 03.07.12 at 21:21

Close Quarters sound great, and i’m not a COD player!I like TDM so it will be great for that!

  • 101_GLiTcH_101 03.07.12 at 21:17

I am not too interested in the Close Quarters DLC so I am going to pass on that but I do like the sound of Armored Kill and can’t wait to get more info on End Game. Thanks for the info DICE!!!

  • chacale47 03.07.12 at 21:14

Remember about the VOIP issue! They fixed it!And it’s working great :) and i trust them for the
    the big patch comming soon

  • nerd_basher_101 03.07.12 at 21:12

Battlefield 3: Close Quarters and evrything else sounds great to me DICE !!!Thanks for all the continued hard work .

  • 7AMDON 03.07.12 at 21:10

let me say again , 1- WE want Badcompany 2 maps in the frostbite2 engine like A DLC ,,2- We WANT DLCs Every 3 months max , 3- this would make it the best shooter game in the life just let us vote for it

  • chacale47 03.07.12 at 21:05

Quality works take more time people!keep the good work DICE thank you!

  • chacale47 03.07.12 at 21:01

The patch will be here soon!3 new expension packs and private servers for consoles and you are
    still complaning! Shame on you!

  • 7AMDON 03.07.12 at 21:00

Good Work Guys but i have a few things to say First of all its boring to wait 6 months instead of 3 months for each DLC , Second thing i would like to Say BF bad company 2 was very amazing and i wish that you can ask BF3 players to vote if they would like to have the bad company 2 maps like oasis and Vietnam to be added in BF3 LIke A DLC , i will be the first person to buy it even if it cost 200 Dollar each map ,and i have more than 300 friends saying the same thing about it ,,,please care more and keep the hard job ,thanks

  • J_A_S_O_N_123 03.07.12 at 20:57

C’mon DICE get your act together, BF3 is a mess right now, the game is pretty much unplayable (I haven’t played it in weeks) the patch is taking way too long. Also wtf, close quarters yea that’s just what we all want…

    • impalor 03.07.12 at 21:31

how is the game unplayable….? i’ve played it yesterday and it played great… besides few things here it plays fine….if you havent played it in weeks, doesnt mean its unplayable…

  • Swaz_Leeds 03.07.12 at 20:55

The people who are complaining about the time between DLC are 100% COD players, Just because activision/IW/Call of Duty franchise are money grabbing bastards and who don’t care about anything other than money and throw DLC out all the time it doesn’t mean DICE have to do the same, They spend time on creating something far superior to COD. I am looking forward to the upcoming DLC’s and will buy each and every one of them. Thankyou for such a good game DICE, I know the patch is coming and also the DLC’s if people actually read the inside DICE series it explains why a patch has not yet been released, too many little kids opening their mouths before they read or hear the full story!

  • Jesper_Isakson 03.07.12 at 20:51

Dice is makeing the best possible DLC for the us, so stop complaning! Btw srry for my English! ;)

  • shellsh0ck7 03.07.12 at 20:49

are you freaking kidding you idiots complainers? get a life. they ARE updating the game. and bringing us DLC. So ungrateful you retards

  • violentj420666 03.07.12 at 20:48

lmao @boome hahaha co back to cod land dude and stfu battlefield is and will continue to be the best shooter on the planet, bad co.2 beats mw3

  • growking 03.07.12 at 20:36

the update needs to be a PRIORITY. get it together dice do you not read your own blog

  • B00ME 03.07.12 at 20:25

This is hilarious, you really just don’t get it do you DICE. 6 months between DLCs? I thought DICE learned from the disaster that was BC2 DLC? You can keep your update too, I’m done with this game. 6 months between DLCs, lmao…

You’ve lost a fan and a BF customer DICE.

    • Luggruff 03.07.12 at 22:57

Are you kidding? Considering the HUGE alterations they’ve done to the game and also, considering the quality of the DLC they release, 6 months is nothing. Go back to CoD and enjoy your little “nothing new” DLC packs -_-

  • CapNKirkland 03.07.12 at 20:20

i want you to FIX THIS GAME before i see any DLC comming out! there hasnt been an update for i dont know how long on console and its getting buggier and buggier! GET OFF YOUR PEDISTALS AND DO YOUR JOB!

  • AssassinatedX420 03.07.12 at 20:11

looking foward to hearing more about the DLC’s they seem like they should be really fun! Can’t wait to hear more about the Rent-A-Server for the consoles so we can finally have platoon matches easier!!! Thankyou DICE!!!

  • BigEnglish 03.07.12 at 20:09

Looking forward to the “Armoured Kill” DLC.
A game update in spring, will be welcomed, hopefully it will address some of the issues we are all suffering.

  • CaptainHoola 03.07.12 at 20:04

My only issue would be that June seems a long time to wait for the next dlc but with the patch coming soon™ and the rent-a-server feature soon-ish™, I’m happy enough. Keep up the good work!

  • t0y shop 03.07.12 at 20:02

I’m glad you’re finally adding some private server functionality to the consoles, however I’m upset to see that we will have to pay for it, it just isn’t worth having to rent a server to play about with a couple of mates.

  • CD0TCIZZLE 03.07.12 at 19:48

I agree Shifter, im only bitching about how long it is taking to give me the patch. All these other people are just bitching to be bitching. Never happy means ruining it for everyone else.

  • N-Shifter 03.07.12 at 19:32

Ungrateful little children on this site ffs, you’re getting your patch, your getting new game modes, new maps, new weapons, new vehicles, new assignments “the biggest map ever created in Battlefield” – you’re getting your own servers for consoles and that isn’t enough for you?

    You lot should be ashamed.

    Thank you Dice.

Wasn’t that hard to say was it?

    • Exeter09 03.07.12 at 19:56

we are getting a patch for things that should have been fixed before release. new maps and weapons that are 3 months away. oh and btw the first DLC is crap that nobody wants. you’re right I should thank them for having us pay to beta test their game and give us dlc that we don’t want 3 months from now. Yup sure am thankfull for all this bullshit

    • brummie1984 03.07.12 at 20:10

well said N-Shifter,,,, i couldnt agree more with you … there is just no pleasing some people…. WELL DONE TO DICE!!!!!! and N-Shifter lol

    • doggiekiller137 03.07.12 at 21:20

just breaks my heart when people talk like this (shut the f-up people) :(

  • S0NofGUN 03.07.12 at 19:24

I really don’t care. Patch the game already, iit is embarassing that DLC worth 45€/$ gets announced and the game still feels ike a beta, people glitchin and cheating all over the place.

    • impalor 03.07.12 at 21:34

they didnt announce how much its going to cost? where did you get 45 from?

  • {D-ca}Amkiller 03.07.12 at 19:23

“the biggest map in Battlefield history.” but all the flags….yes they are in the middle of the map..
this news is good, not that good. because i will not buy one dlc anymore untill the game is fixed..
maybe if close quarters is fun….

  • roguezink01 03.07.12 at 19:12

My previous comment should have read:
So for the underwhelmed who’ve seen 1 new piece of art (above) and the YouTube Cam footage, Rush mode is a larger map in Metro, so assume this will be the same in the new CQ maps and not just corridors.

    • Exeter09 03.07.12 at 19:15

Don’t care! Its gonna suck. The BF Community doesn’t want “close quarters” we want larger scale battles on large scale maps. If we wanted CoD we would play CoD

  • drumscarinbr 03.07.12 at 19:12

    R.I.P. BF3

    R.I.P. DICE

  • roguezink01 03.07.12 at 19:07

I’m sticking up for Dice here. All they get is moan, moan, moan whenever they announce something… or don’t announce something. They’re looking at the longevity of this game (BF3) and have a series of updates announced here to do that for the coming year. BF3 is technically superior to COD, (who are turning around a different game each year) so it makes sense to work on larger content to keep BF3 ongoing, rather than churn out BF4 anytime soon.

So for the underwhelmed who’ve seen 1 new piece of art (above) is a larger map in Metro, so assume this will be the same in the new CQ maps and not just corridors.

I, for one am looking forward to the lot, including the private servers, which i hope has lots of configuration options. I don’t see myself playing other FPS’s for a while!

  • illwillNY 03.07.12 at 19:00

  • McSnarkerson 03.07.12 at 18:59

Does anybody at Dice even read these comments? What about EA? I’m a share holder in EA and have been for a long time. This is a failure of management

  • TonyVilliers 03.07.12 at 18:58

I was so excited when I read “a much requested feature” only be severely disappointed with “rent a server for consoles”. PLEASE GET US A SPEC MODE. That is all we want and it’s not too much to ask. At least the ability to remove guns like you can remove HUD. PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!

  • Brocass 03.07.12 at 18:56

This is the worst news in the entire history of the Battlefield franchise. I hope you are happy wth your new CoD fanbase and are happy with killing off the fans that made you.
I’m so amazingly disapointed that BF3 was the last thing I buy from DICE. Having to wait for another 6 months to find out whether Armored Kill brings maps to make Battlefield the game it should have been on release just isn’t good enough. You chose to please the metro stat whores.

  • Stormrider_333 03.07.12 at 18:46

I think that the best strategy here (if you don´t like the COD style maps) is not to buy the Close Quarters DLC, and wait until the Armored Kill DLC. If Close Quarters has better sales than Armored Kill, forget big maps in the future (or at least not as many as we want)

    • x RRT4444 x 03.07.12 at 18:53

Yeah cause everybody wants to wait 6+months for something new to enjoy the game -_- gears is already coming out with there fourth map pack and cod is every month even though its not alot but still june then fall wtf

  • drumscarinbr 03.07.12 at 18:44

THIS IS BULLSH*T DICE. Isn’t the game called ‘Battlefield’? We want large scale warfare, not hallway gunfights! You guys are going to alienate all of your fans that brought you to where you are now.

All other shooting/combat games have close quarters gun play as the prominent style of play. Look at COD, Socom, Killzone, MOH….the list goes on and on. What do those games NOT HAVE? They don’t have gameplay/maps like Atacama, Operation Clean Sweep, Fushee Pass, Harvest Day, etc. That is what sets you apart!

Now you’re just becoming another one of those games where you run around and shoot people at distances inside of 20 yds.

The armored kill sounds like it might be ok, but that’s 7 months from now! I didn’t buy this game to wait for 6-7 months for it to be patched…….and then another 4-5 months on top of that to get that bigger, open warfare type of experience.

I’m really angered by this news. I think I am done with this series.

    • McSnarkerson 03.07.12 at 18:55

I look at the buildings in the background and wish I could go inside of them and fight inside of them, but I also wish the elevators would work :) But I think they should be part of the larger map, not a single map. Dice hires companies to do research, a lot of this research is done by looking at what other games are out there and their sales numbers. Another way is by focus groups. So these companies got their focus groups and all the donks in the focus group said “I play COD and I like this….” and the hired company reported back to Dice management then Dice management had a meeting with other Dice management and the head code monkeys who in turn passed the info on and here we are. Another problem Dice has if they have some people who want this and some people who want that and they are being reactive like the US Federal Government instead of being proactive. Think Battlefield Vietnam, the original was great!! loved it, the remake was okay. I think Dice has lost its way and taking the fun out of the game.

    • x RRT4444 x 03.07.12 at 18:55

i wouldnt go as far as done but this is rediculous

  • illwillNY 03.07.12 at 18:43

:D seen some game play thanks @arafats3rdeye and i cant wait either for the maps packs but i rather them get it right then put them out now and we need 300 updates ha ! ! !

  • arafats3rdeye 03.07.12 at 18:38

Everyone claims Dice rushed the main game & complained. Now Dice is taking their time to make sure the dlc doesn’t have issues & everyone is still complaining. Make up your mind people !

    • x RRT4444 x 03.07.12 at 18:39

you just said it looks boring but june uhhhhhhhhhh sooo long

    • drumscarinbr 03.07.12 at 18:48

Wake up bro. The game was rushed. Look at all of it’s issues that were not thought of in advance. On top of that, the fans are hearing that the DLC they wanted, is in the wrong direction of what made the ‘Battlefield’ series stand out.

    • Exeter09 03.07.12 at 18:50

No everyone is upset because they rushed the game out and now have to work out a huge patch to fix it. The patch is delaying the DLC. So if they had just not rushed the game out we wouldn’t have to worry about a patch and DLC delays.

  • x RRT4444 x 03.07.12 at 18:32

June WTF been waiting soo long for just the littlest of news and what do ya know fuckin June.God dammit DICE

  • xchaser 03.07.12 at 18:32

Are the expansion packs free? I hope so.

  • trasher-05 03.07.12 at 18:29

All ready have “Close Quarters” as my backround xD

But June is kinda too long…. COME ON DICE!

  • arafats3rdeye 03.07.12 at 18:28

The video of one of the new maps they have posted @ looks boring & uninspired. BF3 developers could use a little more imagination when making maps. I will try to remain optimistic until I see the other maps in Close Quarters dlc.

  • skyppl 03.07.12 at 18:24

but you did drop the ball Dice June rely com on

  • drumscarinbr 03.07.12 at 18:24

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW. This is the worst news possible. Seriously DICE, I hate to say this because I know your team members have families to support, but many people at your studio need to be FIRED. This is unacceptable. I bought this F-ing game because I thought it was going to be a big, open warfare style title, even bigger in scale and depth than Bad Co 2. THAT’S WHAT YOU ADVERTISED. ‘We’ (long-time fans) don’t want more CQ bullsh*t! There are so many other games that have that play style. You let everyone down that wanted somewhat of a sequel to BF2, BIGTIME!

On tip of this bad news, we learn that we have to wait for 3 months!!!!!!! For something that I don’t want and will not buy?????? The armored kill sounds ok, but that sounds like it may be too far on the other end of the spectrum. We want big open maps….with interesting infantry areas as well……get it? It can’t be that tough, as you guys have done that before. Does that mean we have to wait until June for the patch as well??????? No good!

Great, now I have to tell my friends (whom I convinced to buy this game because we liked playing maps like Atacama, Harvest Day, Kharg and Caspian) that we’re basically screwed.

I don’t think I’m gonna play this game anymore. I hyped it up for months leading up to it’s release and it never lived up to it, with the sh*t maps and all the other bugs/issues. I tried to defend it for as long as I could, but now I’m seeing it for the BAD DIRECTION that it’s going in…..and for what it is.

This is not the way that I wanted to start my day off.

Well it not MW3 there are fixing the Bug i hope

    • McSnarkerson 03.07.12 at 18:48

Put me in charge, I’ll fix the fail boat known as Dice. Dice seems to have forgotten this is a game, not HBO series like Boardwalk Empire. You need to come out with this faster and not use code monkeys to write it.
      Don’t be Greedy Dice.

  • Buritoelsombrero 03.07.12 at 18:20

I’m really curious about End game, and Armored kill sounds great; Biggest Battlefield map yet? Awesome!

Close quarters will be a hit or miss, my favorite map of all Battlefield games is the BF2 version of strike at karkand, infantry only, because of the design of the map. Seriously, I can’t remember a single game that I didn’t have fun with BF2′s strike at karkand.

Can i expect such a map/maps from Close Quarters too? concentrated on infantry but not full on corridor shooting?

  • 6xSnake6x 03.07.12 at 18:16

I REALLY think people should drop the pointless COD argument, you don’t even know what the next expansion looks like or how it plays. And why would you even look at this game through that perspective ? Where did this retarded “war” even started ? BF3 is BF3, COD is COD, two VERY different games. Just because they both have a modern war theme doesn’t mean they should be compared, at all. I can imagine a couple scenarios where close quarters would be really awesome, but who knows what DICE have in store ? I say wait and see :D

  • trasher-05 03.07.12 at 18:14

‘Bout time Dice announced a DLC……

What is rent-a-server? SOMEBODY TELL ME!

    • TonyVilliers 03.07.12 at 19:00

Only for consoles. Which if you are using, you should be playing COD

  • connerjohn 03.07.12 at 18:09

to little to late for me , bored of this game already i cant wait another 6 -9 months and the chances are it wont be any good anyway , eadice only really care about sales , how about fixing this game first , is this dlc going to be free ,,i think not , if you valued your gamers then you would , we bought this game and supported you and your buggy product ,only to be treated like muggs ,, it sounds bf is going backwards , i dont want to play a cod wunabe.. i want bf ,,seems to me the best game to come out of dice was bfbc2,,and go ahead block my feed like you did with my twitter ,only because i wanted to know why was bfbc2 superia in everyway , because you dont want bad publicity ,,news for you , preople already know what eadice are all about ,and how bad the game is ,,R.I.P BF.

    • CD0TCIZZLE 03.07.12 at 19:52

    • brummie1984 03.07.12 at 20:14

    • doggiekiller137 03.07.12 at 21:01

dude without paying for it dice wouldn’t be able to make stuff like dlc where do u think the moneys going to come from their as

  • REPER911 03.07.12 at 18:06

7 months for an actual “NEW” Map pack and they are going with close quarters WTF!!! First of all the wait is bad enough and then close quarters, really pissed off. Scrap that and go with armored kill.

  • Exeter09 03.07.12 at 18:00

Close quarters is going to be CoD with better graphics. Not a good idea. Battlefield is about large open maps where tactics and teamwork are key to winning. Its not the CoD formula of put a bunch of guys with guns in a 24×24 box and let them have at it. I can see it now. Just a bunch of RPGs and 40mm everywhere.

  • Skywalker DSP 03.07.12 at 17:41

Come on guys, no one is forcing you to buy the packs. If you prefer indoor, buy that pack, outdoors, buy that one, or if you like both, then get both! I like both indoor and outdoor games, so i will be getting both. Thats whats great about battlefield, is these experiences are so wildly different. There are server browsers, so play the maps you like, leave the ones you dont alone.

    • YourMothersPink 03.07.12 at 21:28

      +1 touche!

    • BigWoopMagazine 03.08.12 at 17:58

Yea, see, there’s a reason we bought this instead of call of duty, or any number of other corridor shooters. It’s not a corridor shooter. So why is Dice turning it into one? Why is this what we get after 9 months? Skip this crap and bring me the armor.

      • Curocko323 04.29.12 at 10:11

Based on what i’ve heard you can turn that corridor into a pile of rubble.

  • cip_cip_kurka 03.07.12 at 17:40

June? – it is reaaaaaaaaally late …

  • BSG-ArchieHicox 03.07.12 at 17:39

Close Quarters? Vertical gameplay? Guys u REALLY need to understand what kind of game u want to develope. Battlefield stile or CoD stile? U can’t have both.

    • Evergrey 03.08.12 at 00:36

      …Why not?

      • BigWoopMagazine 03.08.12 at 18:00

Cause anyone who’s been playing Call of Duty since… the 4th or 5th one should be totally sick of it by now. Plus anyone who bought BF3 probably did so because either they like this style more, or they own both. So we want more BF3, not more CoD. More open areas, more vehicles, more tactics, less camping. This map pack is not encouraging.

  • xXdRoPxXxShOtZ 03.07.12 at 17:34

That’s wonderful. Where’s the FUCKIN PATCH!?!?!?!?

    • H Brun 03.07.12 at 18:00

Dear xXd. Thanks for your feedback. The game update is due this spring. We will have a definite date for you closer to release.

  • H3ADxKAS3 03.07.12 at 17:31

So explain to me one more time why we just didnt buy CoD if we wanted that type of gameplay? Metro is the fav map because ppl use it to pad the stats that are useless in a teamplay (supposedly) game setting. Remove the stat keeping ability and you would see the popularity of the “chokepoint” maps fall. I applaud you on vreating new content but most battlefield players want the battlefield experience, not the shootout in an apartment experience. This game was supposed to be gamebreaking and a genre changer yet it has morphed into any one of 10 FPS games on the shelf, just because the buildings fall a little more doesnt change the game aspect nor the fact that what DICE marketed before launch hasnt even been close to being achieved yet. Here is hoping that you will actually turn it into a defining franchise but sadly all i see is a clone of other generic FPS games on the market. With great rewards come great risks, dont be afraid to take risks to fully achieve what i believe you set out to accomplish!

  • incon54 03.07.12 at 17:29

Are you guys really dropping the player count to 16 from 24? Armored Kill sounds great and End Game is ominous, but Close Quarters is not endearing you to your fanbase. I play BF3 precisely because it’s NOT Call of Duty. Please don’t release DLC that dumbs things down further in a bid to take more CoD market share. Push the patch and bring in more vehicles.
